The Board of Supervisors for the first time in 2014 had authorized the Public Works crew to conduct a Spring Yard Waste collection the first week of May for Township residents. Spring Clean-Up:Īfter a rough, cold, snowy winter. Street Sweeping is conducted in the spring or as needed. All vehicles must be removed from Township streets and roads in the event of a declared Snow Emergency which will be broadcast over local radio and TV channels. Anti-skid materials will be applied for ice control and/or after snow plowing is completed. Typically the Public Works Department will begin plowing snow off of the officially adopted Township roadways when the snow has subsided or when accumulation reaches a depth of 3 to 4 inches or more. Snow removal is always challenging for our Public Works Department. The public works department began a fall leaf pickup program in 2013 as the result of a mandate by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection to disallow the burning of any refuse, brush, or leaves. Also, they operate the wastewater treatment plant and assist with the repair and maintenance of the Township’s sewer lines and eight pump stations. They maintain the Township buildings and grounds, recreation areas and the fleet of public works vehicles and equipment. They conduct the Township’s fall leaf pickup, the spreading of anti-skid material and snow plowing when needed and street sweeping in the spring. This includes the construction of new, reconstruction and patching of existing roads, placement and maintenance of road signs. The Jackson Township Public Works Department consists of seven employees who are responsible for maintaining 47 miles of township streets and roads.
